Deciding what you want to be or do after school can be scary. At Wintec, we talk to students every day who are dealing with this challenge, and we have developed a range of resources and programmes below to help you make the big decisions.

For those 16-19 ready to leave school, you may be eligible to study one of our foundation courses for free.

Choosing your school subjects

So it is time to choose your subjects, and like many people across the country, the endless options can give you a headache. Do not stress; you are not alone and have plenty of options. If you are a few years off finishing school, try keeping your subjects as broad as possible. If you can, we recommend studying maths, English and science to keep your options open as you move closer towards study after high school.

If you realise in your final year of school that you have not taken all the subjects you need to get into the course you want to do, do not panic. Talk to the Careers Advisor at school, or contact our Wintec recruitment team to discuss what your options are.

Discover what your future could look like at Ngā Rā Tūwhera | Wintec Rotokauri Campus Open Day. Join us at our Rotokauri Campus to explore our specialist learning spaces, meet tutors and current students, try hands-on activities, and get a feel for life at Wintec. 

From trades and engineering to sport, animal care and technology, horticulture, arboriculture, and hospitality, you'll have the chance to experience our practical learning environments, ask questions, and find the study pathway that is right for you.

We are open from 10am to 2pm and you are welcome to arrive when it works for you. We encourage you to bring your friends and whānau with you to start exploring your next steps.

🅿️ Parking: Free on-campus parking (bus and van parking is available by arrangement, please email us)

What you will experience: 

🔧 Experience our programmes hands-on: Try practical activities and demonstrations across a range of programmes. Explore at your own pace or join guided tours running throughout the day 
🏗  Guided tours: Explore our industry-standard facilities with a guided tour. Check out our workshops, training kitchens, animal clinics, sports facilities, and more. Please note that closed shoes are required to join a tour.
👩‍🏫 Meet kaimahi (tutors) and current students: This is a great opportunity to ask questions and hear what studying at Wintec is really like. 
📚 Support Services and Te Kete Manaaki: Learn how our teams can support you throughout your study journey. 
😎 Personalised career advice: Get help exploring study options and career pathways. 
📝 Apply on the day: Our team can guide you through your application. 
🍕 Free kai: Enjoy snacks while you explore the Campus. 
🚗 Free parking: Available for all event attendees. 
🏆Win: Check in on event day for your chance to win a pizza oven! 

This event is open to everyone, whether you're attending as a school group, business, or on your own. Ask pātai (questions), explore your options, and let us take the guesswork out of what comes next.
