Service Industries Pathway

Students will learn to create business documents such as reports and spreadsheets and gain an understanding of business software. At the end of the semester, students will have the opportunity to put their learning into practice through work experience in a local business.

This programme is for those who want to begin study but need to build confidence or brush up on skills. Students will choose from four pathways that align with their career goals and gain essential academic knowledge, capabilities, and skills needed to succeed at higher levels of study.

As a student in this programme, you will develop hands-on skills and knowledge to prepare, bake and present a range of breads, biscuits, and cakes needed to start as a trainee baker.

This programme is for people who have the potential to be appointed to team leadership roles or who have recently become team leaders.

Students will gain essential skills in hairdressing and salon operation, to become a junior or assistant stylist in the hairdressing industry.

Students in this programme will learn the skills needed to survive and navigate in the wild. This certificate is made up of both land-based and water-based field trips and explores the principles of personal safety and kaitiakitanga (guardianship and protection of the environment).

This programme offers students an opportunity to graduate with the skills to work in entry level positions in the beauty therapy industry. Students will spend time applying practical skills in Wintec’s Urban Spa and will also undertake work based learning at a beauty therapy clinic, working alongside beauty therapists in industry.

This programme will give students the skills and knowledge needed to be able to deliver exercise instruction to others. Students will learn the important theory of personal training, and build a base of practical experience.

This programme will help develop the knowledge and skills required to work in first line management and leadership roles. Students will gain skills in effective team management in a multi-cultural environment.

Students in this programme will develop cookery skills to prepare, cook and present food, employing complex preparation and presentation techniques. Students will learn standard operating policies and procedures to enable them to work in a commercial kitchen.

Students will learn skills and knowledge of exercise prescription across a variety of exercise environments. Students will learn how to design and deliver advanced technical and personalised exercise programmes to meet the needs of their clients. Practical work is a major component of the study, enabling students to graduate ready to hit the ground running. Graduates of the programme will be eligible to register with the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals.

Students in this programme will learn to operate independently in outdoor environments to safely instruct or guide a range of activities. This will equip graduates with the skills and knowledge to enter the workplace.

This programme is designed to provide students with a broad base of business knowledge, and gain role-specific skills in either accounting or leadership and management.

Students in this programme will learn to plan and produce a broad range of larder dishes, meat, poultry and fish dishes using advanced preparation, cookery and preparation techniques.

The programme will provide students with the knowledge and skills to manage a wide range of agribusiness businesses and operations. They will be capable of working in an autonomous management capacity, and controlling the management of an agribusiness or a unit within an agribusiness.

Students in this programme will learn to work within the scope of practice defined by remedial massage, as well as wellness and relaxation massage.

Build on your interest in numbers and gain the theory and practice of accountancy in an ethical, socially responsible and sustainable way to provide accounting and business advice to companies, organisations and individuals that aligns with Ngā Kaupapa o te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This degree is designed for those with a drive to succeed in business, with a practical focus, and a flexible structure. Students can choose from a range of majors and elective modules, and will gain a broad range of business skills, as well as specialist skills and work experience in their chosen major.

This degree has been designed for students to develop skills to thrive in the media and communications industry. The programme focuses on media communication and marketing craft, along with critical thinking, creative media, content production, and professional practice. Students will have the opportunity to undertake real-world collaborative projects with students from other disciplines, and with industry. The degree has pathways in Creative Media and Digital Marketing. A hybrid Screen Arts and Production pathway is also available.

Students in this programme will gain the skills and knowledge to become a well-rounded practitioner of sport and exercise science. The programme includes physical education, coaching, exercise physiology, sport nutrition, sport psychology, biomechanics, sport rehabilitation, and personal training.
