Studying for free at Wintec

For many people, the cost of studying is one of the main reasons they decide not to pursue it. At Wintec, we can help you access support in several ways so that part, or in some cases all of your course fees, may be covered. This is a huge relief for many learners. Financial support can be accessed in many ways:

  • Government Fees Free: If you are a first-time tertiary learner, you may be able to get the Fees Free scheme for study or training starting in 2024. If you are eligible, we will organise payment of your fees with the Tertiary Education Commission. The Government announced that Fees Free for the first year of study or training will finish at the end of 2024. A final-year Fees Free scheme will replace it, starting from 1 January 2025.
  • Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT): Māori and Pacific learners aged 16-40 may qualify to study for free across a range of programmes.
  • Wintec subsidised courses: We have a range of free courses in high-demand industries to support employment.
  • Scholarships: Many different types of scholarships and funds are available, and your age, ethnic origin, or area of study may determine if you qualify.
  • Youth Guarantee: Provides opportunities for young people aged 16-19 ready to enter tertiary study.

Check out the information below to see how you might qualify to study for free.
