About
I began my teaching career in South Africa as a high school teacher of English (both first and second language). I then moved on to work on sub-degree and degree level ESL language programmes (including short CALL courses and integrated language programmes) at a number of different universities. I also taught undergraduate courses in Linguistics and a postgraduate course on Language Teaching. For 14 years after immigrating to New Zealand, I taught Foundation Studies English at the University of Waikato. After that I moved to WIE where I was involved in setting up and teaching the New Zealand Certificate in Language teaching (Level5). One week before the COVID Lockdown, I joined Wintec and learned all about online teaching!

What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?
I enjoy teaching, preparing lessons and creating materials and assessments. I also enjoy my job as Moderation Chair, which involves organising the moderation in the Centre and helping Kaiako with moderation when they need it. Another aspect of my job which I enjoy is working on the Professional Development Committee and working with Kaiako to arrange sessions which meet their interests. In addition, I am very appreciative of the opportunity I have been given to be part of the CfL Researchers’ team and to be able to focus on my interests which include Visual Literacy and Language Teacher education.
