What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?

I enjoy teaching because it allows me to support students as they develop into confident, capable engineering professionals. I find it rewarding to break down complex concepts in ways that spark understanding and curiosity. I especially value the moment when a student realises they can apply theory to real engineering challenges.

What do you love about your area?

I love structural and earthquake engineering because it combines analytical thinking with real-world impact. Every design decision contributes to creating safer, more resilient buildings and communities. The field is constantly evolving, and I enjoy engaging with new research, technologies, and seismic design approaches.

Tell us about your experience in the industry

My industry experience includes several years as a structural engineer in New Zealand and overseas, where I worked on the design of buildings, seismic load assessments, and complex structural analyses. I am an active member of Engineering New Zealand, NZSEE, and SESOC.

My achievements include completing a PhD in earthquake engineering, publishing research on seismic isolation and vibration control, and presenting findings at international conferences. This background allows me to bring strong practical and research perspectives into my teaching.
