About
Professional background: I started my career as a high school teacher in South Africa and worked in that sector for 11 years. My partner and I immigrated to Aotearoa New Zealand in 1998. I worked at the University of Waikato for 17 years. At the University, I worked in the language school sector for a short stint and then on the Foundation studies programme for a brief spell. For the last 14 years there, I worked in the then Linguistic and Applied Linguistics Department as a language teacher educator and as a teacher on the English for Academic Purposes papers.
In 2018, I moved to the Centre for Languages here at Wintec. Since working at Wintec, I have been working on the NZCEL Level 5 and 4 courses. I have also supervised Master’s of Applied Innovation in what was the Design Factory New Zealand. I am also the Researcher Leader for the Centre for Language.
Hobbies: I thoroughly enjoy Zumba dancing, bushwalking, doing pilates, doing yin yoga, tramping, watching operas and musicals, and escaping into books - in no particular order. 😊
