We are putting learners at the centre
Wintec is part of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology, together with all the other polytechnics in New Zealand.
From 2023, all Wintec learners will be enrolled with Te Pūkenga, instead of Wintec. Right now, our people will continue to support our learners. They will still be enrolled in the same qualification and will continue to learn in the same way, in the same place, with the same people.
Being a part of Te Pūkenga means we will be more connected to the other organisations delivering vocational and applied education in Aotearoa New Zealand and we will work with them to share skills and knowledge to better help you succeed.
We are excited to be part of Te Pūkenga which has been set up as part of the Government’s Reform of Vocational Learning. Te Pūkenga is creating a network of online, on-campus and on-job learning to give learners more flexibility in what, where and how they learn.
You will see more communication about this change over the next few months. We want to reassure you that the learning of our tauira will remain our priority.
Education is changing and Wintec is changing with it, so our tauira/learners can find success in a world that’s moving and changing faster than ever before. At Wintec we nurture and guide individual students as part of a community so they are confident and equipped to navigate their way in the future world of new jobs and ways of working.
To build stronger communities through education, research and career development.
Mā te mātauranga, te rangahau, me te whai mahi e ora ai te iwi.
What can you study at Wintec?
As one of New Zealand’s leading institutes of technology, we offer an extensive range of programmes from certificate to post-graduate degree level.
We employ staff with industry knowledge, often practising professionals in their given fields of expertise who foster new thinking, discovery and achievement. Their knowledge is shared through effective teaching, combined with state-of-the-art technology and modern campus facilities and support for our tauira/learners to be successful.
We are an integral part of our community. We work closely with iwi, hapū, whanāu, employers, industry and community organisations to understand and respond to the skills required.
Through our graduates, tauira/learners and kaimahi/staff we contribute positively to the regional and national economy, and play a role in its ongoing prosperity.
Design thinking and innovation
Our learners are encouraged to work in cross-disciplinary ways. We are home to New Zealand’s first and only Design Factory NZ, a globally-connected co-creation space where tauira work with industry partners to solve complex problems.
We celebrate entrepreneurship and business development at www.sodainc.com our onsite business incubator.
We’re local and global
We are proudly part of the mighty Waikato but we educate and support learners from around the country and around the world.
We educate around 15,000 students each year in New Zealand and a growing number of countries across the globe.
Wintec has campuses across the Waikato and we are New Zealand’s only tertiary institution operating an international college in Jinhua, China. We provide offshore delivery in many places including Thailand, South America and the Solomon Islands.
