What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?

I come from a media and advertising background, having spent around ten years working in the industry before transitioning into academia. My initial involvement began as a guest 'industry expert,' but once I started teaching I quickly developed a deep appreciation for the impact of education. I’m passionate about how transformative learning can be and the powerful role it plays in shaping the futures of our ākonga (students). My enthusiasm for marketing, advertising, and media runs deep, and I love encouraging students to explore these fields and forge their own unique paths within them.

What do you love about your area?

I have always had an interest in the media industry, in particular digital media. It is so fast paced and media trends change year on year so it is an area you constantly have to up-skill in, which I think makes it exciting. New technologies are shaping the media world and are making what we thought would be impossible – possible.

Tell us about your experience in the industry

Before joining Wintec, I worked at a local advertising agency where I was involved in a range of national and local campaigns. My expertise lies in digital marketing, and I’m particularly interested in how rapidly evolving digital trends are shaping the industry. I’m also an early career researcher and currently serve on the committee for ITP Early Career Researchers in Aotearoa, the Community of Researchers of Applied and Future-Focused Training & Technology (CRAFT).

What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?

Outside of Media Arts, I’m also a busy māmā, part-time taxi driver, and personal chef to my two daughters, or you’ll likely find me unwinding at a dance class after work.
