Capped programmes
We have a range of programmes that are capped. This means they are in high demand and have limited places available.
There are set closing dates for domestic applications and a selection process in place for the following programmes:
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Bachelor of Midwifery
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy
- Master of Nursing Science (Pre-Registration)
We may continue to accept applications after the closing date, but these will not be included in the initial selection process and will only be considered if places become available.
Other programmes we offer have closing dates or will close once the number of places available is filled. This means applications are assessed, and places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants who have submitted complete applications. We recommend you apply for these programmes as early as possible.
We will continue to make offers as we receive applications until the number of places available is filled. Once all places have been filled, applicants will be placed in date order on a waitlist and will be offered a place if one becomes available.
These programmes are:
- Automotive Engineering 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying
- New Zealand Certificate in Animal Care (Level 3)
- New Zealand Certificate in Animal Healthcare Assisting (Level 4) with strand in Rural Animal Healthcare
- Enrolled Nursing (Nēhi Whakauru) (Level 5)
- New Zealand Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Level 6)
International applications for capped programmes will be assessed in the order they are received. Applications will close once the number of places are filled.
Selection process for programmes
There are three steps in the selection process for programmes where this applies.
Step 1: Checking and assessment
An application is checked for completeness to ensure all the supporting documents have been provided and assessed to check the academic entry criteria for the programme have been met.
Applications are assessed as they are received, and we will let you know if we require more information or if we cannot progress your application to the next stage.
If we are unable to progress your application, we will contact you to discuss other study options to help you reach your career goals.
Step 2: Selection
This next step takes place once applications have closed.
Applications submitted after the closing date will not be assessed unless more places become available.
Applicants are selected based on academic achievement, personal statements, interview outcomes, and referee reports (where relevant). Preference is given to applicants who demonstrate a likelihood of success and who clearly meet the requirements of entry. An affirmative action approach may be applied to applicants identifying as Māori or Pacific who meet the stated entry criteria.
An individual or group interview may be included as part of the selection process.
Step 3: Offer and waitlisting
Successful applicants will be offered either an unconditional or conditional place – we will make offers up to the number of places available.
Applicants who meet the entry criteria but where there are insufficient places available will be placed in order of their selection ranking on a waitlist and will be offered a place if one becomes available.
