Vocational Pathway - Services Industries Sector - Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (NCEA Level 2)

About the programme

This pathway introduces you to an exciting look into a career in hairdressing and beauty therapy, not only gaining entry-level skills that align with NCEA Level 2, but skills employers are looking for that are required by industry.
The learning is hands-on and practical while you establish these key competencies throughout the programme; preparing the hair for hairdressing, basic principles in workplace requirements in the salon, protecting the client for hairdressing, assisting an operator, sustainability concepts for a salon, maintaining and ordering supplies, provide client service and care, key concepts and maintain personal presentation, current fashion trends and anatomy, and physiology knowledge.

NCEA level: Level 2 (Level 3 in year 2)

Number of credits: 30

Duration of programme: 32 weeks, February to November with option to re-enrol for the second year in August

Programme structure: 1 day per week (8.30-3pm) during the school term

Location: Rotokauri Campus

Cost: Free to the student

Transport: To be arranged with your school and covered by WTA (if applicable)

Year two entry criteria: To move on to year two you will need to have completed 80% of the available credits in year one, and 100% of the available credits in both of your chosen year two modules. Candidates who do not meet these criteria may be accepted at the discretion of the WTA.
