Provide table service in a commercial hospitality environment



What is it all about?

Fancy picking up some credits and learning how to work in a restaurant or cafe as a waiter or waitress, earning money? Then this is the programme for you.

In this course, students develop the necessary skills and knowledge to provide table service in a cafe or restaurant.​ They also get to experience life as a tertiary student at the Centre for Hospitality at the Wintec Rotokauri campus.

This pre-entry unit standard is for people training as food service staff to work in a broad range of food and beverage service outlets.

You will learn:

  • How to present a menu and take orders from customers;
  • serve customer orders at the table;
  • and clear and maintain tables during service.

What to bring/wear?

Students will be working in our trainee commercial kitchens. They must wear long pants, have leather-topped shoes, hair is to be tied back, no facial jewellery or other jewellery to be worn​.​
