Health and Wellbeing
Wintec offers a range of learning opportunities in health and wellbeing, including support work, nursing, midwifery, social work, counselling, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy. We offer graduate and postgraduate programmes to suit all levels. At Wintec, you will gain the skills, knowledge, and practical experience to succeed as a health professional.
Bridging / foundation programmes
Foundation programmes are ideal for people who don’t meet the entry requirements for a specific course they want to study, are unsure of what programme to study, or have been out of study for a long time. Students will graduate ready to jump straight into their next course, or with the confidence to use the skills they already have.
Support work programmes
Nursing programmes
Studying Nursing at Wintec involves a combination of learning theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning in real healthcare environments. Social work programmes

Counselling programmes
Wintec provides students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience to work as registered counsellors in New Zealand. Study combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning in real healthcare environments. Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists help restore movement, function and quality of life to people of all ages affected by injury, disability or health conditions. Professional programmes / short courses
Facilities
In addition to your classes and lectures, you will gain practical experience in learning environments such as our simulated ward. This provides computerised patient models that assume real health issues.
Wintec values diversity and inclusion. Therefore, our facilities are designed to encourage interprofessional learning between our health and our social practice students. This provides the opportunity for interaction between staff and students, which is reflective of real-world work environments.
Placements
Studying towards your qualification requires you to spend a set amount of time on placement – this means working in a real-life work environment where you can put your learnings into practice. The amount of time spent on placement varies according to what qualification you are studying, and in which year of study you are. First-year students will spend approximately a quarter of the year on placement. Whereas, by the time you reach your third year, you will spend almost all of your time on placement.

About the faculty
In the Centre for Health and Social Practice we provide practical interprofessional education that prepares students for a future in the health and social practice industry.
If you have a passion for people, nursing, social work and counselling, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or midwifery are all challenging but rewarding choices. Our courses and programmes are a great way to start your career, supported by experienced and registered academic staff.
