Location, location, location: Design Factory New Zealand has new spot at Wintec | Te Pūkenga City Campus

It’s hard to miss Design Factory NZ’s new location on campus. Just look for the striking and colourful vinyl designs on the windows of the ground-floor workshop spaces, situated in A Block opposite the Hub and the library. After six years in their previous space, the team have moved to deliver their innovation and problem-solving training in the heart of the City Campus.

The Design Factory NZ provides courses in innovation and problem solving for Wintec | Te Pūkenga students, allowing them to work in multidisciplinary teams to develop future-work related skills while completing their qualification. Since their inception in 2016, they have had over 300 students complete their Level 6, 7 and post-graduate courses, and run a range of workshops for business and community groups.

Its visible new site boasts two quick-to-change learning environments, where students and coaches alter the environment to suit their needs, providing spaces where students and industry partners work together to solve complex problems.

What can you expect at the new HQ? There’s the hustle and bustle of dynamic learning, upbeat music playing and coaches guiding the learners along their innovation journey.

“We teach students the skills to ignite their curiosity, problem solve and design-think, then coach them while they apply it to real world challenge with their industry partners,” says Design Factory NZ Lead Margi Moore.

The coaches say the proximity to the student body in this new space is a great opportunity to connect with Wintec | Te Pūkenga students.

“We're excited to see students walking past and peering in. Any student studying across Wintec can take a paper at the Design Factory and our door is always open to talk about what we do here.”
