From directing and composing to performing on stage and carrying out technical jobs behind the scenes, Wintec staff, students, and alumni are widely involved in the official opening of Hamilton’s newest arts attraction.
The latest art installation to temporarily call Wintec’s Ramp Gallery home includes 120 abandoned birds’ nests. Titled Being and Non-being by Artist Julia Christey, the piece consists of repurposed nests ironically suspended from a product intended as anti-bird netting.
Earlier this year, prestigious artist and Wintec Media Arts alumni Paul Darragh had his sculpture, a positive and joyous beacon of LGBTQI+ pride, named ‘Progress Pillar’, on display as part of the 2024 Boon Sculpture Trail in Kirikiriroa | Hamilton. Thanks to crowd-funding, the Progress Pillar now stands triumphantly at the newly refurbished Hamilton Transport Centre, where it was officially unveiled on Wednesday, 6 November as part of the centre’s opening ceremony.
