Wintec achieves near-perfect pass rates for nursing and midwifery programmes

Wintec continues to break down barriers for those who are passionate about a career in nursing or midwifery.

Wintec | Te Pūkenga is celebrating another year of remarkable achievements in the 2023 national exams leading to registration as a nurse or midwife in New Zealand. Achieving near-perfect pass rates across the nursing and midwifery qualifications, Wintec continues to break down barriers for those passionate about a career in nursing or midwifery.

A total of 1779 candidates from across New Zealand participated in the nationwide Registered Nurse Examination held in November. Wintec had a pass rate of 98% for the Bachelor of Nursing (BN), and Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) (MNSc) programmes, exceeding the national pass rate of 95%. Similarly, the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing (DEN) programme saw 115 candidates across New Zealand sitting their exams, with Wintec achieving a perfect 100% pass rate, significantly surpassing the national average of 87%.

Wintec also celebrates another year of outstanding achievements across the Bachelor of Midwifery program in 2023. In addition to achieving a 100% pass rate in the 2023 national exam, all of those newly registered midwives have already gained employment within the sector across Aotearoa.

Jodi Fata, Wintec’s Centre Director for the Centre for Health and Social Practice says, “Wintec has a proud history of consistently achieving exceptional results in nursing and midwifery education. At the beginning of this year we watched and celebrated as 100% of our 2022 class walked across the graduation stage as registered nurses and midwives. These outstanding results are a testament to Wintec's commitment to delivering excellent programmes and reflect the dedication of both students and faculty.”

Graduates of Wintec's health programmes come from a diverse range of cultural and educational backgrounds.

“The wonderful diversity of our ākonga adds a real richness and depth to our learning environment and highlights the inclusivity here at Wintec,” says Fata.

“We are particularly proud of our results across our health programmes as many of the students entering them have previously struggled in formal education or have been out of education for some time. This is a reflection of the hard work and determination of these students, the accessibility of our programmes and also the strong pastoral support provided to all our ākonga at Wintec.”

Fata puts a call out for those who lack the confidence to enrol.

“If you think nursing or midwifery is an area you would love to pursue but don’t think you can do it, with our support, we know you can!”

Another key factor in the exceptional outcomes achieved in the national examinations, says Fata, is the teaching faculty's approach to facilitating learning.

“Their focus is on empowering students to think critically and make informed, evidence-based decisions, which sets ākonga up for future success.

“I would like to extend congratulations to all of our students, and also thank all of our faculty and staff who have contributed to this success through their unwavering commitment and dedication.

“The results underscore Wintec's role as a leader in education, shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their careers.”
