Wintec flooded with students for Open Day 2022

Passing showers didn’t dampen the spirits of the floods of excited prospective students who attended Wintec’s annual Tōia Mai Open Day this year.

Held at both Wintec’s City and Rotokauri campuses on Friday 26, August, this year’s Open Day saw hundreds of potential ākonga (students) and their whānau come along to see what student life at Wintec could be like.

Wintec’s different centres and schools were set up across both campuses showcasing the broad range of study and vocational learning options available. From Arboriculture to IT, Nursing to Industrial Design, Sport Science to Automotive Engineering, and Animal Technology to Media Arts, there was something for everyone. Staff were on hand to answer questions, discuss career options and help people work through decisions about their future.

There was a great buzz on campus with plenty of interactive activities, free kai, live workshops and tours of the campus, the accommodation facilities and a number of the schools and centres.

Buses filled with students from secondary schools all across the greater Waikato region arrived throughout the morning, with schools bringing their students to experience first-hand all Wintec has to offer. The free buses running continuously between the City and Rotokauri campuses were also kept busy showcasing the different offerings and uniquely different environments we have.

Wintec’s Tōia Mai Open Day provided key pieces of the puzzle for many people trying to make informed decisions about where their future might lead them. The student enrolment team received many applications from those ready and excited to sign up on the day, and had conversations with lots of others who were heading home to apply online. For some, there is more research and thought needed before they are sure of their next steps in their future.
