Summary

Be guided in this year-long course by our industry-expert tutors. They will support you in gaining valuable hands-on experience and background knowledge, working on mechanical and electrical systems across a range of vehicles. In the future, you may progress to work on repairing cars or large/heavy vehicles. Or you may specialise in areas such as air conditioning, sound systems, or electric windows and brakes.

Entry criteria

There is open entry to this programme although students must demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success.

Selection criteria
Candidates may be required to participate in an interview process.

To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must by physically able to carry out the practical components of the programme.

English language requirements

Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5, with no individual band score lower than 5; or equivalent.

What you will need

As part of the Centre for Trades Safety Guidelines, you will be required at all times while in the workshop to wear:

NZ approved safety steel cap footwear
Full covered overalls (cotton)

Please bring these with you on your induction day, as you will be unable to enter the workshop without them.
NZ approved safety glasses will also be required to be worn at all times, and we will provide these to you at induction.

We also recommend you bring the following items with you:

A laptop or tablet
Stationary:
- Refill pad
- Pens- red, blue, and black
- Pencil - HB
- Eraser

The following items are also useful to bring but not essential:

Pencil sharpener
30cm ruler
Protractor
Glue stick
Small scissors

He reo pōwhiri, your official welcome to Wintec

Tēnei te mihi mahana ki a koe e piki nei, e kake nei ki te Kuratini o Waikato.

You are warmly invited to attend the official welcome to Wintec for all new students, staff and whānau (family) at either our marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa or Rotokauri campus. The pōwhiri is a welcoming ceremony involving mihimihi (speeches), waiata (singing), and will conclude with kai timotimo (light refreshments). Please gather at the campus hubs, and a staff member will guide you through our pōwhiri.
