Designed for those who have completed a Level 4 Cookery qualification or have relevant industry experience, this programme develops advanced cookery techniques, leadership, and creative menu design within a professional kitchen setting.

Through hands-on, on-campus learning, you’ll refine your technical ability, gain real-world experience, and showcase your creativity in a final Capstone event, where you lead a team and deliver your own dining experience. Manager Traineeship option

For those already employed in the industry, the Managed Traineeship offers a flexible alternative. You’ll continue working while completing your qualification through scheduled workshops, weekly check-ins, and bespoke masterclasses. Workplaces must offer a variety of cookery experiences and be approved by Wintec’s Team Manager, Hospitality. Employers benefit from upskilling staff while maintaining productivity and building confident, qualified culinary leaders.

Entry criteria

You can apply for this programme if you meet one of the below options:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4)
  • or two years of relevant culinary work experience or equivalent.


English language requirements

Applicants who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5, with no individual band score lower than 5.0; or equivalent.

He reo pōwhiri, your official welcome to Wintec

Tēnei te mihi mahana ki a koe e piki nei, e kake nei ki te Kuratini o Waikato.

You are warmly invited to attend the official welcome to Wintec for all new students, staff and whānau (family) at either our marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa or Rotokauri campus. The pōwhiri is a welcoming ceremony involving mihimihi (speeches), waiata (singing), and will conclude with kai timotimo (light refreshments). Please gather at the campus hubs, and a staff member will guide you through our pōwhiri.
