My name is Ted Pogai and I am the Pasifika Learning Advisor. I have had a professional career for 25 years in the High School education arena and more recently in the tertiary sector.
I have a background in literacy and in my role I primarily work alongside Pasifika and Māori students in their learning journeys but also assist any other student in their learning space. Pasifika and Māori students learn in different and divergent ways and their cultural capital and awareness are part and parcel of who they are. As such their world view differs from others and therefore their learning style may also differ. I can assist in how to learn or re-learn strategies in an effort to support students to succeed.
I am passionate about our Pasifika and Māori students and their learning journey. If there is anything that I can assist with I am here to help.
I enjoy sport watching and more recently coaching. I have been coaching for 25 years in basketball, volleyball, rugby, league, touch, athletics, tennis softball and more. I have lived 25 years here in Hamilton with my wife and four children.
