Prescription
To develop and enhance the students' awareness and knowledge of New Zealand in terms of its history, heritage and commercial development by exploring key historical events that have occurred within this cultural, political and social framework. This module will develop the students' understanding of how culture, heritage and commerce are contributing to the development of New Zealand society and why and how these values and qualities should be protected and enhanced for future generations.

Learning Outcomes
1: Examine and evaluate the significance and contribution of Mori culture, colonisation,
immigration, heritage and social events that have occurred in New Zealand's past and
demonstrate how these have contributed to the development of New Zealand society and
tourism.

2: Evaluate the uniqueness of New Zealand from a cultural and environmental perspective.

3: Discuss the importance of sustainable resource management and conservation in terms of
corporate social responsibility.

4: Analyse factors (including social cognitions) in New Zealand's current cultural, social and
political environment that may influence commercial behaviours and influence potential
changes to New Zealand's society.

- Indigenous values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga in relation to tourism
- Professional Practice attributes: effective communication skills (written and verbal), time
management; task management; self-management; responsibility; reliability; personal
presentation.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching will involve blended delivery methods incorporating the Moodle online delivery platform. Other delivery methods may involve theoretical and practical classes, face to face, lectures, tutorials, workshops, group activities, guest tutors, field trips, role-play, and video conferencing, as appropriate.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is achievement-based. Candidates must attempt all assessments and must achieve a minimum C grade pass overall to pass the module.
