This unit standard is for use in the training of mechanical engineering and related trades, and covers the safe shifting of loads in installation, maintenance, and fabrication work, using simple lifting appliances. It does not cover the moving or lifting of personnel. People credited with this unit standard have demonstrated ability to select and inspect lifting appliances and tackle, sling and secure loads, and carry out shifting procedures.
