3:Analyse classes of drugs and their impact on animal body systems.
Content
-Veterinary pharmacology concepts for veterinary nurses (classes of drugs, application of drugs, body systems; medications for specific conditions; medication indications and contraindications)
-Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
-Toxicology
-Common companion animal (e.g. cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds) poisons and associated treatment
-Professional attributes: compliance with animal welfare standards and workplace health and safety requirements; professional and ethical behaviour; effective communication skills; accurate record keeping
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning will be facilitated using a range of teaching and learning methods, which may include: tutor facilitated and directed presentations and/or lectures, practical or workshop sessions and activities, guest speakers from industry, demonstrations, online learning activities, scenarios and case studies.
