Prescription
To provide students with the knowledge and skills to select, develop and prescribe simple strength training programmes. The emphasis of this module is the identification of key muscles of the human body and the practice of resistance exercises to target specific muscle groups.

Learning Outcomes
1.0Identify and describe human anatomy and movement as it applies to resistance exercise.
Describe the structure of each major joint.
Demonstrate the movements of each major joint.
Identify the muscles responsible for each joint movement.
Describe the effects of incorrect technique or contra-indicated exercises on joint anatomy.

2.0 Demonstrate correct technique when using basic gym equipment.
Identify and demonstrate resistance exercises targeting specific muscle groups
Identify and describe key teaching techniques as they relate to safe resistance training techniques.
Identify and demonstrate correct posture, evaluation of contra-indicated movements and general health and safety as they relate to exercise safety.
3.0Demonstrate correct stretching techniques
Identify and demonstrate key static and dynamic stretches for each muscle group.

4.0 Develop and implement a basic resistance training programme.
Describe and implement the principles of training, as related to strength training, and Develop and demonstrate a general resistance training programme.

To pass this module student must complete all assignments and accumulate an overall module mark of no less than 50
Students must also meet all of the requirements of the competency based assessment tasks to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be on the basis of the marks from the achievement based tasks.
