The purpose of this module is to develop the student's knowledge of a broad range of ornamental plants and their uses in the landscape.

Learning Outcomes
1.Identify and list features of common ornamental plants and describe the climatic, environmental and cultural (care) requirements for the identified plants.
2.Select suitable plants for sites with specific growing requirements.
i.Range: Wet, dry, full sun, partial shade, full shade, windy and combinations.
3.Select plants to suit specific roles in the landscape.
i.Range: Specimen tree, shrub fillers, groundcover, hedge, perennials, climber, edibles, fruit trees.
4.List native plants suitable for the above situations and uses and describe ecosourcing.
5.Identify and use plant databases.

Site characteristics affecting plant performance.
Plant identification, features, adaptations and care requirements for at least 200 plants.
Plants for specific sites and uses
Climatic zones.
Plants for specific sites and uses.
Plant interactions and combinations.
Sourcing plants.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will include theory classes, tutorial sessions, practical sessions, formative tests, oral & practical and written tests.
Assessment Criteria
Students must attempt all assessments and Students need to attain a mark of 50 or above in their overall grade to obtain a pass.
