Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module students will, with appropriate references to the field of their Endorsement, be able to demonstrate the following outcomes:

Electronics technology outcomes
1. Evaluate the scope and utility of electronic devices, services and sub-systems
2. Discuss the impacts of key drivers underpinning electronics technology development and uptake
3. Investigate and analyse a project's requirements to create a project specification.
4. Create a solution concept for an electronic black box++ system, and a design specification
5. Implement a practical electronics black box solution to the given specification, and evaluate and report the performance of the system judged against specification
6. Evaluate the design and implementation process with reference to supporting documentation

Technology discipline outcome
7. Compose an argument for the use of integrated electronics based management and control systems that demonstrate a developed appraisal of the benefits it offers when evaluated against sought-after outcomes in a technology discipline associated with the appropriate Endorsement.

++This module uses the term black box to describe a device or sub-system which is viewed in terms of its input and output characteristics, where the user is not required to see nor understand its inner workings.
Content
Electronic devices and sub-systems.
Including but not limited to: Electronic identification, measuring and sensing (e.g. flow, temperature, wind, weight), Actuators, Motion converters.

Integration of electronic devices and sub-systems into a system.
Including but not limited: to Communication, Physical and Data requirements.

Integration of data into a management system.
Including but not limited to: Spreadsheets, Databases, and Control systems.

Desirable Outcomes.
May include but but not limited to: Design specification and context; Productivity and production efficiency; System measurement; Technology payback period; Bench marking; Integration synergies; Technology convergence; Computer based decision support linked to best practice management; Multiparty collaborations

Applied design and implementation processes relevant to individual projects.
May include Process documentation format and language. Aspects of project management.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching may include but is not limited to:

- tutor led sessions,
- guest speakers,
- demonstrations,
- small and large group discussions,
- laboratory sessions,
- group and individual research of online resources
- visits to electronic technology providers, research/demonstration facilities, and industry as appropriate.

The major learning and assessment activity associated with this module is an individual assignment. This is designed to be an experiential exercise with support from the tutor, and this is reflected in the indicated tuition and self-directed learning hours.
Recommended Readings
Activites in this course require students to seek their own readings from the internet, national and international scientific literature, governent publications, local body publications, other. Guidance will be given to assist student's to acquire appropriate resources.
