The aim of this module is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to perform a basic consultation, including hair and scalp analysis, and elementary styling tasks. They will also learn to provide neutralising services.

1. Pincurl hair using a variety of techniques and complete follow up actions.
Mould and scale hair using a variety of techniques and complete follow up actions.
Neutralise hair.
Use knowledge of the fundamentals of the skin, bones, head and hair to perform a limited consultation, including hair and scalp analysis.

Content
- Moulding and scaling hair using a variety of techniques; follow up actions.
- Pincurling hair using a variety of techniques; description, follow up actions.
- Perming and neutralising hair
- Trichology; skin, bones of the head and hair
- Consultation techniques
- Professional practice attributes: reliability, punctuality, time management, effective
communication skills, personal presentation and self-styling, interpersonal skills, adaptability,
creativity, teamwork, customer service.
- Compliance with health, safety, hygiene and environmental policies in the salon
environment.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Practical, theoretical, face to face, and on-line Moodle sessions including; lectures, tutorials, discussion, group activities, self-directed learning, practical workshops in training salons, inquiry-based learning, and project-based learning.
Assessment Criteria
To pass this module all assessments must be submitted and an overall pass mark of 50 is required. Students must also meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessment tasks to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be based on the marks from the achievement-based tasks.

An extended reading list will be supplied by the tutor at commencement of the module. This will be updated annually.
