Prescription
The aim of this module is to provide the student the opportunity to participate in a supervised placement experience so as to: -Undertake basic social work roles and tasks under the guidance of an experienced practitioner. -Strengthen the links between their developing knowledge of social work theories, models and ethics with day to day social work practice. Students will develop the skills to critically analyse practice issues in social work and begin to develop their own practice and their professional identity.

Learning Outcomes
1. Synthesise, apply and articulate knowledge of social work theory and interventions within the policy and legislative context.
2. Establish and maintain professional relationships in a social service contexts.
3. Critically analyse organisational culture and structure and theories relevant to social work in a placement setting
4. Critically examine the place of bicultural and/or Kaupapa Maaori practice within a placement setting and wider field of practice.
5. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of ethical principles and their application to practice.
6. Use collaborative skills in inter-professional practice
7. Engage in effective use of professional supervision to reflect on social work practice using reflective practice models.
8. Critically analyse social work practice within a framework of social justice and client self-determination.

- The application of social work in a range of fields of practice
- Ethics in social work
- Concepts of collaborative practice and interprofessional practice
- Bi-cultural and Kaupapa Maaori approaches to social service delivery
- Multi-cultural approaches to social service delivery
- Structure of social service delivery
- Exploration of professional supervision
- Legislation relevant to placement experiences
- Social Workers Registration Board competencies
- Relationship between policy, legislation and practice
- 60-day supervised placement
Teaching and Learning Strategy
May include: Project-based Learning; Flipped Classroom; Blended Learning; Work-Integrated Learning; Inclusive Practices.
Methods may include workshops and practical classes, tutorials, case-based learning, inquiry-based learning, group activities & discussion, supported online learning, e-portfolio, practice simulation.

Learning and Teaching Resource
An extended reading list will be supplied by the tutor at commencement of the course. This will be updated annually.
Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Students must meet all the fieldwork requirements, including complete a minimum of 450 hours of field placement (60-day supervised field placement with a day being not less than 7.5 hours) to be eligible to complete this module.
