The aim of the module is to provide students with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to support them in self-management and personal development at tertiary level. This module also provides students with the opportunity to explore possible pathways through a special topic that will prepare them for further study in their chosen field at certificate level.

- On completion of this module students will be able to:
Compulsory:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of critical thinking principles
2. Differentiate between fact, opinion and assumption
3. Use critical thinking to solve problems
4. Show an understanding of the importance of time management for adult learners
5. Demonstrate effective use of time in relation to own and/or group priorities
6. Demonstrate methods to facilitate efficient use of time in dealing with priorities
7. Describe stress and its common sources and effects in relation to adult learners
8. Describe ways of dealing with stress
9. Identify aspects of intrapersonal communication relating to self
10. Identify strategies for self-development
11. Identify study tools that can be used to support individual learning
