This module aims to introduce students to research and research methodology. It aims to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the use of research with early childhood education, including using Action Research as a reflective practice tool.

By the end of this module students will be able to:
1.Distinguish and analyse various research methodologies and identify ethical practice within research.
2.Articulate the components of qualitative and quantitative research methods and demonstrate how these can be used in practice.
3.Source literature and produce an effective literature review. Students will also be able to define the difference between reviews of literature and literature reviews.
4.Demonstrate the relationship between research and early childhood education, including a critique of Kaupapa Mori research within early childhood education. - Learning and Teaching Resource

Relevant required and recommended readings and resources will be updated annually prior to delivery of the module to ensure currency of the literature and resources. The annual required and recommended reading list will be provided to the students in Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) annual Booklist and Student Module Booklet. - Assessment Criteria
- Assessment in this module is achievement based. Students will be required to achieve a result of 40 or better in each of the assessment tasks. The overall mark to pass the module must be 50 or better.
