The aim of this module is to provide an overview of the social service sector and provide knowledge of social service work. It will enable students to understand social issues in Aotearoa/New Zealand, identify their own values and worldviews and to gain knowledge of working in social services in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Learning Outcomes
1. Describe their own worldview, values, beliefs and attitudes.
2. Identify key social issues in the social service sector in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
3. Examine social service sectors that work with clients experiencing these social issues,
Human Rights issues.
4. Examine codes of ethics in the social service sector.

Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is competency and achievement based. To achieve a pass grade for the module, you must complete and submit ALL pieces of assessable work and gain an overall final mark of at least 50.
