The purpose of this module is to provide the student with the skills to develop confidence and expertise in public speaking by exploring and applying theories of oral communication.

Learning Outcomes
1. Understand the principles of accepted communication models and systems
- Explain the effect of new technologies on communication practices in business
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of major communication issues (range:values,
knowledge management, globalisation, technology) in business and the implications for
strategic communication
- Demonstrate an ability to distinguish relevant points from information presented in case
studies and a real world situation
- Demonstrate an ability to critically analyse formal and informal communication practices in
business
- Explore underlying principles of business communication and show an ability to extend ideas

2. Extend logical and creative thinking processes
- Explore, develop and strengthen interpersonal skills through problem-solving, conflict
resolution and negotiation in a group setting

3. Plan collaborative report writing and presentation seminars
- Use facilitative techniques for group work
- Demonstrate and reflect on group processes and team functioning
- Understand group roles and responsibilities
- Use accepted formats and structures to prepare professional documents
Assessment Criteria
Candidates must achieve a minimum result of 40 in the final examination or nominated assessment/s of each module. They must also achieve a minimum C grade pass overall from all assessments to receive a passing grade for the module.

Teaching and Learning Strategy
