Prescription
The aim of this module is to introduce students to a range of drawing skills required in interior design. The aim is to provide students with knowledge and skills to be able to become competent in a range of manual drawing techniques from freehand sketching of conceptual design ideas through to the creation of formalised technical architectural drawings to industry standard plus the ability to design and document cabinetry and details relating to the practice of residential interior design.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will have the knowledge and skills required to:

1. Understand and apply a range of two dimensional and three dimensional manual drawing skills
- Develop competency in a range of two dimensional and three dimensional manual drawing techniques as a means to conceptualise design ideas and creatively problem solve.
- Practice working with a range of different media exploring form, scale, texture, colour, light, shadow, style
- Employ a range of drawing techniques to demonstrate perspective and space
- Discuss an understanding of traffic flow, orientation and spatial planning

2. Apply and be competent in manual technical drawing skills and the associated drawing conventions
- Produce developed technical architectural drawings and details which demonstrate an understanding of construction, materiality and services
- Construct drawings which conform to industry standards AS1100 and are used in the development and presentation of interior design technical architectural drawings
- Apply appropriate cross referencing to floor plans and other drawings in the architectural set of drawings
- Develop knowledge and competency in the principles of lighting, electrical and services drawings

3. Apply and be competent in specialist furniture/cabinetry design and detailing skills
- Produce joinery/cabinetry design and appropriately scaled detail drawings for specialised furniture pieces for interior projects
- Experiment with a variety of materials and finishes in the development of a designed piece of cabinetry/furniture
- Apply appropriate cross referencing to floor plans and other drawings in the architectural set of drawings
- Prepare and demonstrate an understanding of construction and assembly requirements through detailed drawings

Teaching and Learning Strategy
This module centres on a practical hands-on learning approach requiring exploration and experimentation by the student and supported by course content in lectures, exercises, and practice sessions in the classroom.

The module is undertaken in a drawing studio environment where the course content is directly related to the content of other courses in integrated problem based projects.

- Tutor prescribes structure for working through stages of a project
- Tutor prescribes exercises to develop freehand and technical drawing skills
- Students participate in collaborative critiques
- Students develop their understanding of issues explored in texts, visual works, precedent studies and practice sessions in class
Assessment Criteria
To pass this module, students must pass all assessments and accumulate an overall mark of no less than 50.
