The purpose of this module is to provide the student with the interpersonal communication skills required to ensure success in tertiary study. This module covers listening and assertiveness, speaking, non-verbal communication and leadership styles. It explores problem solving and negotiation as approaches to conflict resolution.

- Analyse and develop skills required for effective interpersonal communication
- Listening and assertiveness skills are analysed and demonstrated. Range: including but not limited to: non-verbal communication, barriers to effective listening, strategies for effective listening (such as reflective listening, questioning techniques), sending assertive messages, giving and receiving compliments.
- Strategies for dealing with conflict are identified and demonstrated. Range: including but not limited to: conflict resolution, negotiation skills, problem-solving techniques.

- Teaching methods will include theory and practical classes, with an emphasis on students developing their own communication techniques. There will be a range of workshop exercises and group activities as well as research into relevant Interpersonal communication skills
