The purpose of this module is to provide the student with the interpersonal communication skills required to ensure success in tertiary study. This module covers listening and assertiveness, speaking, non-verbal communication and leadership styles. It explores problem solving and negotiation as approaches to conflict resolution.

Learning Outcomes
Analyse and develop skills required for effective interpersonal communication
- Listening and assertiveness skills are analysed and demonstrated. Range: including but not limited to: non-verbal communication, barriers to effective listening, strategies for effective listening (such as reflective listening, questioning techniques), sending assertive messages, giving and receiving compliments.
- Strategies for dealing with conflict are identified and demonstrated. Range: including but not limited to: conflict resolution, negotiation skills, problem-solving techniques.
- Interpersonal skills which enhance workplace communications are analysed. Range: including: styles of leadership, working with teams and groups.

Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching methods will include theory and practical classes, with an emphasis on students developing their own communication techniques. There will be a range of workshop exercises and group activities as well as research into relevant Interpersonal communication skills
