Prescription
This module aims to develop skills to meet independent reading needs of students at a CEFR high B2 level. This will enable students to independently read a range of academic texts with different purposes, demonstrating a broad active reading vocabulary. They will be able to quickly identify the content and relevance of information on a wide range of topics, and understand specialised information relevant to areas of academic interest.

Learning Outcomes
Access, interpret and use information from several online sources, including charts, diagrams, tables, graphs, and/or flowcharts.
Demonstrate understanding of extended academic descriptions, journal/feature articles, reports and/or narratives.
Locate, evaluate and integrate several pieces of information from complex academic texts which include formatted text.
Content
Range
-a broad range of vocabulary including idiomatic expressions
-a broad range of grammatical structures including those used to convey distinctions in meaning.
Register
-the role of register in texts across a range of contexts.

Text structure
-textual features are used to achieve purpose in a range of texts including those containing images, graphical and tabular data
-the different ways in which meaning is built up in texts
-a range of logical markers and sequence markers.

Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. To pass this module, students must attempt and pass all assessment tasks.
