Learning Outcomes
1: Analyse factors affecting global tourism.

2: Characterise the various sectors within the New Zealand tourism industry.

3: Investigate and evaluate the impact of domestic and international tourism both in New
Zealand and globally.
Content
- International tourism terms, concepts and the elements of tourism products and services.

- Key tourist motivating factors and causes.

- Tourist product design, growth and development factors such as product lifecycles,
intangibility, heterogeneity, perishability, variability, seasonality tourists flow, tourism supply
and demand.

- PESTEL (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, Legal) analysis of the
impacts, influences and trends of New Zealand and Global Tourism including: Economic
impact (exchange rates, inflation, opportunity costs, GDP, Balance of Payments),
sustainability - socio-cultural and environmental, local, regional and national governance,
distribution channels, stakeholder positioning.

- The role of Mori culture, values and people in the development of New Zealand's tourism
industry.

- Professional Practice attributes: effective communication skills (written and verbal), time
management; task management; self-management; responsibility; reliability; personal
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching will involve blended delivery methods incorporating the Moodle online delivery platform. Other delivery methods may involve theoretical and practical classes, face to face, lectures, tutorials, workshops, group activities, guest tutors, field trips, role-play, and video conferencing, as appropriate.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is achievement-based. The portfolio is comprised of multiple compulsory components; candidates must attempt all components and achieve a minimum C grade pass overall to pass the module.
