Prescription
To manage the veterinary office and retail areas, including acting in the role of the senior veterinary nurse. To demonstrate advanced computer skills, manage the processes required for clinic accreditation, communicate practice policies and manage Human Resources within the veterinary practice. Students completing this module will: manage processes required for clinic accreditation and interpret and communicate practice policies; take on the responsibilities of a senior veterinary nurse, including the management of new and existing staff; use advanced computer and office skills to produce professional handouts for clients and manage the veterinary office and retail areas efficiently.

- Outline the preparation required for 'Best Practice' accreditation of a Veterinary clinic

- Interpret and communicate practice policies

- Design a list of staff guidelines for practice policies (drug dispensing, staff discounts, OSH, staff issues and client complaints)

- Describe the role of a senior veterinary nurse within the veterinary practice (assisting with staff management, meetings management, contracts, performance appraisals, professional development, staff inductions and training, rosters, time and stress management, new graduates and support systems)

- Demonstrate advanced reception skills and retail management

- Demonstrate advanced computer skills (word, excel, publisher and powerpoint)

- Produce professional client handouts, information pamphlets, newsletters and stationery

- Operate specialised veterinary software program

- Detail the methods used in veterinary clinics to manage inventory including stock-taking methods, banking and petty cash

- Demonstrate advanced skills in customer and staff management

- Identify the importance of public relations and customer service
