Use and calibrate laboratory glassware and equipment.
Perform and interpret measurements using instrumental methods.
Perform aseptic techniques and examine microorganisms.
Content
-Names, use and accuracy of laboratory glassware
-Following laboratory procedures and recording data
-Use and calibration of laboratory equipment including autopipetes, balances, thermometers, pH-meters, spectrophotometers
-Preparation of standard solutions and dilutions
-Calibration curves and presentation of data graphically
-UV-visible techniques including theoretical background and data interpretation
-Basic centrifugation theory and use of centrifuge
-Filtration methods
-Aseptic techniques
-Use of microscopes
-Use of controls and standards
-Experimental errors

Learning will be facilitated using a range of teaching and learning methods, which may include:
Practical - laboratory; practical or workshop sessions and activities; demonstrations
