Mechanical Design 2
To enable students to apply knowledge of engineering mechanical design science, to plan and formulate solutions to problems based and to evaluate the solutions developed by others.

- 1.Evaluate a broadly defined engineering problem and develop a design brief and a specification for practical solutions.
2.Develop a plan to undertake and manage the procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of a mechanical engineering system which solves a broadly defined engineering problem.
3.Work in a team to plan, research, generate and present a range of possible solutions to concept design level based on a customer's design brief and specification, and recommend and justify a preferred solution.
4.Develop a design concept to the stage where design calculations, general arrangement and detailed component drawings, and associated documentation are all completed.
5.Review, evaluate and report on the detailed design work of others with respect to the following parameters; ethical, environmental, economic, health and safety, legal and code compliance, and operational practicality and efficiency.
- Apply the theory covered in at least two of the Mechanical Compulsory papers at Level 6.
Analyse and establish loads including AS/NZS 1170 - Structural Design Actions - Parts 0, 1, 2, 4, 5.
Research technologies and design and carry out feasibility research.
Select applicable NZ and/or international design standards and design components in accordance with same.
Produce formal design reports and deliver technical presentations.
