MG5001 – Engineering Computing
To enable students to develop an understanding of computing principles and their use in engineering practice.
- Directed hours
- Self directed hours
- Total learning hours
- Learning Outcomes
- Solve engineering problems using an engineering maths and analysis package.
Develop a program to a specification by devising, coding and testing an algorithm to solve a specified problem.
Use software packages, including spreadsheets, and/or discipline specific software to produce engineering solutions.
- Engineering maths and analysis package, command window usage, script files, arrays, plotting, matrix operations.
Principles of computer program design and data structures
Computer programs in general
Methods, data types, assignments, parameters, loops and iteration, conditional statements.
Spreadsheets: an introduction to their general functionality and use in carrying out engineering calculations. In particular, associating functions and code to cells is explored.
The programming of spreadsheets and/or discipline specific packages for engineering analysis and calculations.
