Learning Outcomes
1. Plan the on-site maintenance of a landscape design according to the vision of the landscape designer.
2. Prepare a quote for the landscape maintenance programme.
Content
- Landscape maintenance plan;
o Hard elements; i.e. hard surfaces, timber features, water features
o Soft elements; i.e. lawns trees, shrubs, climbers, annuals, perennials and bulbs
- Lawn maintenance;
o Mowing, weed control, chemical and non-chemical control, fertilising, watering, aeration and thatch control, non-destructive levelling, re-seeding or re-turfing
- Tree, shrub and climber maintenance;
o Weed control, chemical and non-chemical control methods, pruning and training, fertilising, watering, stake and support structures, protective structures, ground cultivation, replacing dead or damaged plants.
- Annual, perennial, bulb maintenance;
o Weed control, fertilising, watering, ground cultivation, chemical and non-chemical control methods, dead-heading, tying back, trimming, lifting and storing bulbs, removal and disposal of annuals, planned rotation of bedding plants and bulbs, conditioning the soil, planting new annuals, planting bulbs
- Soft elements; schedule of activities
- Hard elements; schedule of activities
- Inter-relationships of soft and hard elements
- Maintenance program quantity survey; i.e. labour, materials, plants, onsite overheads, off-site overheads
- Maintenance program quote; with overheads and profit margins
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is mixed mode. Students must gain a minimum mark of 50% in the achievement-based assessments and meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessments including carrying out all tasks in a safe manner and to industry standard to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be based on the marks from the achievement-based assessment tasks. Where there is no achievement based assessment involved, a competency pass will be given if competencies area satisfied.
