Learning Outcomes
1:Correctly use appropriate electrostatic damage (ESD) avoidance equipment when handling and testing electronic components and equipment
2:Demonstrate correct soldering and desoldering techniques on electronic components and printed circuit boards
3:Select suitable battery chargers and load testers and carry out condition tests on a range of batteries used in instrumentation equipment
4:Investigate the behaviour of analogue electronic components such as op-amps, transistors, opto-couplers and diodes used in instrumentation systems such as input/output modules, instrument amplifiers and power supplies, using appropriate test equipment
5:Investigate the behaviour and applications of digital electronics components used in instrumentation systems, using appropriate test equipment
Content

-Soldering and de-soldering techniques
-Batteries, chargers and testers and their uses
-Electronics test equipment functions and uses
-Analogue electronics components, circuits and instrumentation applications
-Digital electronics components, circuits and instrumentation applications
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning will be by way of structured practical learning where students are given a range of tasks to complete and observations to make from their practical findings.
Students will be encouraged to research some aspects of their practical by way of reference to manufacturers' instructions and/or data sheets which may be via library/database and/or internet searches.
