Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Learning Outcomes
1. Apply critical reasoning and judgement for the use of medication for common disease processes during pregnancy and puerperium.
2. Examine the mechanisms by which pregnancy and pathophysiologic changes in disease processes influence the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and adverse reactions of medications.
3. Outline the significance of laboratory tests and clinical trials in medicine development.
4. Analyse the responsibilities of the midwife in the interprofessional health team as it relates to medicine management.
5. Examine the economic and political controls of pharmacotherapeutics in Aotearoa New Zealand.

? Relate pathophysiology of common disease processes to medicine use in clinical situations
? Theoretical concepts of medicine actions - pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics
? Therapeutic uses of medications in the childbirth year, including contraceptives, antibiotics and opiates
