Students will develop competency in screening and assessment to support the use of effective treatment(s) and intervention(s) for working with addiction and co-existing problems service users. Students will critically evaluate treatment and intervention approaches appropriate to the whnau/client group with whom they are working.

1.Critically evaluate the relationship between addictions, co-existing mental health problems, identity and psycho-social functioning.
2.Analyse the impact of addiction issues on the lives of service users and their natural supports.
3.Demonstrate the ability to conduct a comprehensive assessment of addiction and co-existing mental health problems.
4.Analyse national guidelines and practice frameworks regarding the management of risks when working with addiction and co-existing problem (CEP) service users.

-Comprehensive Assessment frameworks and approaches
-Case conceptualisation & treatment planning
-Assessment of Behavioural Addictions, with a focus on Gambling Disorder
-Assessing and responding to risk in an addiction and CEP counselling role
-National risk assessment guidelines & standards
Teaching and Learning Strategy

Methods may include workshops and practical classes, tutorials, case-based learning, inquiry-based learning, group activities & discussion, supported online learning, e-portfolio, practice simulation.
Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
