- -Pruning tools and their functions; parrot-beak secateurs, anvil secateurs, loppers, pruning saws
-Tools and their uses; woody, herbaceous, thorny material, differing branch thicknesses
-Growth characteristics; evergreen, deciduous, conifer, climbing plant, rose
-Growth and flowering characteristics; current seasons growth, previous seasons growth, vegetative buds, flower buds, spurs
-Natural plant forms; single leader, branched head, multi-stemmed, divaricating, fastigiate pyramid, weeping, rounded, vase, prostrate, trailing, climbing
-Pruning and training fruiting and flowering plants; flowering on current seasons growth, previous seasons growth, spurs on older wood, flowering seasons
-Pruning to promote desired growth; clipping, heading back, shaping, shearing, tipping
-Correcting plant defects; double leaders, broken leaders, broken limbs, imbalance, reversion, diseased wood, dead wood - Teaching and Learning Strategy
- Theoretical face-to-face and online sessions including tutorials, workshops, group activities, discussion, workbooks, independent learning, and assignments.

- Assessment in this module is competency-based. In order to pass this module, students must attempt and meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessments including carrying out all tasks in a safe manner and to industry standard.
