Theoretical face-to-face and online sessions including workbooks, lectures, workshops, group practical activities, discussion, independent learning, and assignments centred on project based learning
Content
-Qualities and features of lines
-Line and equipment useage, industry standards, manufacturer recommendations
-Lines; natural fibre, synthetic, climbing, lowering, throwing, lanyards, prussic loops
-Equipment; safety harness, ascending/descending equipment, micro pully, tool strop, snaps, carabiners, throwing balls, grigris, shunts, gaffs, spikes
-Care and maintenance, fault and defect checks.
-Knot tying; reef knot, bowline, running bowline, round turn and two half hitches, double sheet bend, clove hitch, figure eight, prussic, timber hitch, Blake’s hitch, slip knot
-Practical applications
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is competency-based. In order to pass this module, students must attempt and meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessments including carrying out all tasks in a safe manner and to industry standard.
