Prescription
The aim of this module is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to undertake hair design practices, including colour treatments and long hairstyling. Students will also learn about historical hair fashion and design, and current and emerging trends. Students will participate in events which afford opportunities to demonstrate their hairdressing skills and further develop their professional practice skills.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate knowledge of hair colour and non-oxidative colouring practices.
2. Prepare, perform and maintain long hairstyling services and complete follow up actions.
3. Create and perform image based fashion practices for current and emerging hair fashion,
influenced by historical hair designs and techniques.
Content
- Hairdressing history and influences of historical hair design and techniques on current and
emerging hair fashion
- Dressing long hair into elementary styles and follow up actions
- Colour and non-oxidative colour principles and practices
- Planning and creating images for the hairdressing industry
- Principles and practices for hair design in the community and for events
- Professional practice attributes: reliability, punctuality, time management, effective
communication skills, personal presentation and self-styling, interpersonal skills, adaptability,
creativity, teamwork, customer service.
- Compliance with health, safety, hygiene and environmental policies in the salon
environment.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Practical, theoretical, face to face, and on-line Moodle sessions including; lectures, tutorials, discussion, group activities, self-directed learning, practical workshops in training salons, inquiry-based learning, and project-based learning.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is mixed mode. To pass this module all assessments must be submitted and an overall pass mark of 50 is required. Students must also meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessment tasks to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be based on the marks from the achievement-based tasks.

An extended reading list will be supplied by the tutor at commencement of the module. This will be updated annually.
