This module aims to build on the understanding of development and learning gained in years one and two with a focus on adults, including adult mental health. The module aims to explore and critique language development and acquisition including English as another language (EAL). It aims to explore creativity as a form of expression and representation with a focus on the student's own creativity.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module students will be able to:

1.Critique a wide range of human development theories, including post-modern perspectives and examine their relationship with professional early childhood education practice.
2.Describe and critique the concepts of identity, including sexuality, gender, ethnic and racial, and adult mental health and their impacts on teachers and learners.
3.Discuss and critique the development of language acquisition, bilingualism and multilingualism, including the relationship between language and thought and language and culture.
4.Select and justify strategies to support language acquisition and development, bilingualism and multilingualism amongst learners.
5.Describe and critique creativity and the arts as forms of expression and representation for adults, including the students own personal creativity.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is achievement based. Students will be required to achieve a result of 40 or better in each of the assessment tasks. The overall mark to pass the module must be 50 or better.

Content

Development and learning and post-modern perspectives on development and learning, Identity, sexuality and gender identity, diversity, adult mental health, including stress and loss, language and thought, language development, representation, bilingualism, multilingualism, (EAL), creativity for adults and creativity for children.

- Team taught, lectures, tutorials, literature, reflective practice, experiential learning in the Practicum placement, praxis, demonstration and instruction, specialist guest speakers, language instruction
- Self-directed learning, workshops and online participation, and participation in Community of Practice/Learners

- Academic staff with relevant qualifications, knowledge and skills in early childhood education
- Specialist guest speakers
- Web enhancement
- Early childhood education teaching room with wet floor
- Agreement with Practicum Placement to support student with their study commitments

Relevant required and recommended readings and resources will be updated annually prior to delivery of the module to ensure currency of the literature and resources. The annual required and recommended reading list will be provided to the students in Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) annual Booklist and Student Module Booklet.
