This module aims to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the holistic nature of health and wellbeing. It aims to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in relation to healthy eating habits, prevention, detection and response to child abuse, and an awareness of a range of disabilities and special needs.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module students will be able to:
1.Describe and define concepts of health and wellbeing for adults and children, including concepts of Mori health.
2.Select and apply strategies for the promotion of health and wellbeing within early childhood education settings.
3.Determine and implement practices of food safety and nutrition within early childhood education settings.
4.Identify the four main areas of child abuse and define strategies for the prevention of detection and response to child abuse.
5.Show an understanding of health services in Aotearoa New Zealand and the impacts of hospitalisation and long term illness for families, whnau and the early childhood education setting.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is achievement based. Students will be required to achieve a result of 40 or better in each of the assessment tasks. The overall mark to pass the module must be 50 or better.
