1. Explain the principles of magnetism and electromagnestism
2. Explain the principles of AC generation
3. Complete the safe isolation of AC circuits
4. Select, maintain and safely use tools and associated equipment.
Content
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Hand and power tools used in the electrical industry
- Electrical test equipment
- Testing for isolation and electrical safety in accordance with current legislation
- Magnetism and electromagnetism principles
- Electromagnetically operated equipment
- Differences between DC and AC
- AC generation principles, terms and units
- Calculations involving AC
Assessment Criteria
Theory and practical assessments are selected from range of methods described in the programme document. Assessment methods may vary from provider to provider to accommodate regional requirements. Students will be advised of all matters relating to summative assessment at the start of the course.

This course is assessed using competency-based assessment. Students must successfully complete all summative assessments in order to pass and receive credit for this course.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
The programme uses a range of teaching and learning methods as described in the Programme Document. Learning and teaching activities employed in this course may vary slightly, from provider to provider and cohort to cohort, to accommodate varying cohort numbers, localised resources and requirements.

All courses contain a combination of learning activities aimed at providing a mix of practical-based or applied activity as well as the presentation of theoretical knowledge.
