- 1. Describe the physiology and anatomy of trees
2. Describe the growth requirements of plants
3. Explain the biological process and requirements in relation to tree management and care - Content
- • External plant parts; roots, stem, leaf, bud, node, internode, bark, crown shape, branching
• Plant cell types and functions
• Plant tissue types; phloem, xylem, meristems, epidermis, storage tissues
• Secondary growth, heartwood, sapwood, reaction growth, cambium
• Morphological structure adaptations; roots, stems, leaves, fruit
• Plant growth processes; photosynthesis, respiration, water movement, nutrient uptake, cell division
• Tree adaptations
• Environmental requirements; temperature, water, nutrition, light.
• Tree requirements in tree management; propagation, planting, growing, training and pruning, harvesting, storage - Assessment Criteria
- Assessment in this module is mixed mode. Students must gain a minimum mark of 50% in the achievement-based assessments and meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessments including carrying out all tasks in a safe manner and to industry standard to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be based on the marks from the achievement-based assessment tasks.
